Travelers have still not warmed up to mobile transactions
Travelers are increasingly using their mobile devices for planning trips, and assistance during the trips themselves.
However, when it comes to the amount of actual travel-related transactions that take place on mobile devices, this number still lags far behind the total market of mobile payments, according to a report from Adyen. For clarity, mobile payments in this sense refers to transactions made on a mobile device and not payments made in a store with a mobile wallet.
- 32% of all online transactions in 2015 came from a mobile device, says the report.
- But just 15% of travel-related payments happened on mobile.
- Lodging and accommodations receive just 17% of all online bookings from mobile.
- Airlines receive 13% from mobile.
